Internationally renowned choreographer of contemporary dance, Mathilde Monnier, and French modern visual arts master, Dominique Figarella, come together to bring you a performance that merges the fields of dance and the visual arts. Illusionary yet tangible layers of white foam give off the impression of dancing sculptures. And, by temporarily filling, spreading, and even occupying the entire stage with soap bubbles, dancers are able to create a constantly changing environment on stage. This also enables an absurd amount of foam to interfere with the dancers’ movements. The two artists integrate both their fields of expertise to construct a theatrical stage that changes along with the process of painting/sculpting. And, the “soap opera” itself is actually a metaphor for a contemporary art exhibition space. Through multiple conversions of the “performing bodies,” they portray the process in which the theatrical space is transformed into a white box. As the soap bubbles fade over time, the degree of intimacy that the dancers share with the audience gradually develops, evolving into a frolic of its own and featuring a down-to-earth and playful appearance.
